Cutaneous Leishmaniasis

Abstract
Cutaneous leishmaniasis continues to be a diagnostic and therapeutic problem in endemic areas. History and epidemiology of the disease, the causative organism, and the mode of transmission are discussed. The nature of the immune response is outlined and the finding of circulating antibodies in the sera of patients is reported. A classification of cutaneous leishmaniasis is proposed, and clinical and histopathological descriptions are detailed. Therapeutic measures are critically reviewed.
