Semiconductor figure of merit for nonlinear directional couplers

Abstract
We present numerical calculations of the material figure of merit for a variety of bulk semiconductors at room temperature. For efficient switching to be possible in a half-beat-length nonlinear directional coupler, a minimum material requirement is that the figure of merit should exceed unity.Keywords
