Abstract
Among 22,737 admissions to North Carolina Sanatorium System, 100 patients, or 0.004%, had tuberculous peritonitis. The disease was observed in 63 females and 37 males. Negroes were more often afflicted than whites (79 Negroes, 21 whites) but the Negroes admitted to this tuberculosis hospital system is high. Thirty-seven patients had the "primary form" of tuberculous peritonitis and 63 had other forms of tuberculosis as well. All patients received chemotherapy but 24 also underwent surgery. The prognosis was favorable with antituberculous chemotherapy.
