Quasi‐Two‐Dimensional Screening of the Electron‐Hole Interaction in Modulation‐Doped Quantum Wells

Abstract
The screening of the electron‐hole interaction is studied for n‐type modulation‐doped double heterostructures including the effects of size quantization and spatial dispersion accompanying the presence of free carriers. Two different screening models are studied and compared. The resulting screcned potentials are applied to estimate the exciton binding energies by means of a variational procedure. The results are discussed in dependence on the sheet carrier concentration and the well width.
