THE DISK-SHAPED, or ring, cataract is a rare form of congenital cataract that has been reported relatively few times. Judging from a review of the literature, the hereditary tendency has been reported in only 1 family. In July 1944 a 10 year old girl (Nadine L.) with congenital disk-shaped cataracts was brought to the eye clinic of Stanford University Hospital for examination and treatment. Her history led to the study of a most interesting family, consisting of 59 persons, of whom 16 have the same congenital anomaly. In addition to the cataract, all the affected members examined showed symmetric dislocation of the lens. No other local or systemic anomalies were found. This family is not related to any other with congenital cataract, and, so far as I can trace the familial history, there were no known cases of this condition prior to the ones reported herein. There was no history
