Über den Zusammenhang der Biogenese von Anthocyan und Leukoanthocyan

Abstract
Experiments with labeled phenylalanine (carboxyl-C14) were undertaken to determine the path of synthesis of the anthocyanins in Impatiens balsamina. Under suitable conditions phenylalanine was incorporated in the leucoanthocyanins in exactly the same way as in anthocyanins and flavonols. The rate of incorporation was of the same order of magnitude as in these compounds. With a single supply of phenylalanine-C14 the specific activity in the leucoanthocyanin at first increases and after the appearance of anthocyanin again diminishes. The course of the curves of the specific activities of both substances indicates that leucoanthocyanin in the seedlings of Impatiens is a preliminary stage in the synthesis of anthocyanin.
