Abstract
A derivation of the compressibility of metals is presented using a general local pseudopotential based on second-order perturbation theory. The formula so obtained for the Hartree screening is specialised for the linear potential. A good agreement between the theoretical values calculated for eight metals and the experimental data justifies the motivation envisaged in the present investigation. Keywords
