Abstract
Extremely variable rates of O2 uptake were obtained from 2 0.25-inch tomato leaf-disc samples cut from the same leaf when measured with the Warburg respirometer in the presence of an [image]/15 KH2PO4 buffer. By eliminating the phosphate buffer and fitting uniformly cut filter paper moistened with 0.1 ml. water into each Warburg flask, significant variation in rates of respiration between 6 tomato vars. was measured successfully. Keywords
