Effect of Barbituric Acid on Urea Diets for Ruminants

Abstract
The addition of barbituric acid to ruminant rations to decrease ureolytic activity was found to be detrimental as measured by body growth and feed utilization in sheep fed a urea diet. Cellulose hydrolysis in vitro was inhibited at low levels of barbituric acid with either urea or protein as the nitrogen source. Copyright © . .
