Time-dependent Landau theory for the smectic--nematic phase transition

Abstract
A time-dependent Landau theory is proposed for the smectic--nematic phase transition. It is shown that the nematic viscosity coefficients exhibit a pretransition effect similar to that for the elastic constants.
