Abstract
The historical development of the dialectic is briefly traced from Hegel to Marx. Certain aspects of both Hegelian and Marxian dialectics are brought to bear in arriving at a critical assessment as to how the development of a humanistic psychology should proceed. In this way, the reader is taken on a dialectical journey, where it is concluded that current ‘humanistic’ psychology may be aufheben (at the same time negated, affirmed, and transcended) in order to bring into being a truly humanistic psychology.
