Abstract
Measurements of optical density and magnetic circular dichroism are reported for all magnetic phases of Fe. A transparent magnetic circular dichroism is reported to exist only in the mixed-phase region of the phase diagram, and further verification of the spin-forbidden transition at 4270 Å is presented. These optical measurements are used to map the magnetic-phase boundary of Fe. We report a Néel temperature of (23.7 ± 0.1) °K and a tricritical temperature of (21.5 ± 0.1) °K.
