ANAPHYLAXIS TO BROMSULPHTHALEIN

Abstract
The case of a patient with an anaphylactic reaction to bromsulphthalein (BSP) which was treated successfully is described, and the relevant literature is reviewed. It is concluded that the test should be performed only where facilities exist for dealing with anaphylaxis, and that intravenous injection should extend over a five‐minute period. In the treatment of anaphylaxis, adrenaline and hydrocortisone should be administered, supplementing cardio‐pulmonary resuscitative measures.
