ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHIC EFFECTS OF ANTIMONY DIMERCAPTO-SUCCINATE (`ASTIBAN')

Abstract
Thirty-four patients with intestinal schistosomiasis were treated with a 5 day course of 2 g of astiban given by daily intramuscular injections. Pre-and immediately post-treatment electrocardiograms in 26 patients revealed a high incidence of T wave changes usually with prolongation of Q-Tc. Astiban is cardiotoxic but it is less toxic than sodium antimony tartrate.
