2,2′-Diphenyl-1-Picryl-Hydrazyl as a Reagent for the Quantitative Determination of Hydroperoxides

Abstract
The stable free radical 2,2''-diphenyl-l-picryl-hydrazyl (DPPH) is decolorized by the radicals formed on spontaneous decomposition of fatty-acid hydroperoxides. This property was used for developing a sensitive method for the determination of these peroxides. With a standard curve prepared with pure methyl-oleate hydroperoxide, low peroxide values (down to 0.002 mM/kg) can be determined.
