Red Cell Slip at a Wail in vitro

Abstract

Interferometric microscope observations of flowing blood indicate that the absolute number of red cells maintaining sliding contact with a wall is of the order 10⁴ per square centi meter at low flow rates. Contacting cell oscillation and orientation results are given. The near wall local hematocrit is found to be relatively low.
