Capillary Permeability in Human Skeletal Muscle Measured by Local Injection of51Cr-EDTA and133Xe

Abstract
The skeletal muscle capillary permeability for 51Cr-EDTA, expressed as the Capillary Diffusion Capacity, CDCcr-EDTA' was measured in normal man after simultaneous injection of 51Cr-EDTA and 133Xe into the anterior tibial muscle. During local hyperemia CDCCr-EDTA averaged 3.5, SD 0.7 moles/ 100g/min per mole/ml. Inhalation of carbon monoxide or local injection of histamine combined with local hyperemia did not influence the permeability significantly. In contrast local injection of hyaluronidase and hyperemia caused a highly significant increase in the permeability of the capillary wall.
