Abstract
The reaction with C12, leading to the ground state of N12, of neutrinos from stopped pion and muon sources has been suggested as a possible means for proving the identity of "muon" and "electron" neutrinos. The cross section and angular distribution of this reaction are investigated here, and the total reaction probability is shown to be reduced by nuclear structure effects below the free-nucleon value. Other possible targets for the neutrino-induced reaction are mentioned.
