Precise Centre Settling Device for Quadrupole Magnets

Abstract
An apparatus for centering drift tube quadrupole magnets and measuring their harmonic field contents is described together with the search coil and its calibration method. Sensitivity within 0.5 µm and reproducibility within ±2 µm can be obtained for the magnetic centre location Harmonic field components in four types of model magnets are measured for different pole shapes. The pole shape II gives the smallest field nonlinearity.
