Abstract
5-Methylthiouridine tri-O-benzoate and 5-methylsulphonyluridine have been prepared. The latter gave a crystalline triacetate and an isopropylidene derivative, which when phosphorylated by different methods gave via the intermediate 2′,3′-isopropylidene-5-methylsulphonyluridine 5′-phosphate, 5-methylsulphonyluridine 5′-phosphate. The monophosphate was converted into the corresponding pyrophosphate in various ways. The reactions and preparations of some of the intermediates are discussed.
