X-Ray Investigation on the Change in Orientation of Cellulose in Sound and Infected Tracheids of Chir (Pinus longifolia)

Abstract

X-ray diffraction patterns of sound chir sapwood and that infected by Lenzites striata indicate that the degree of disorientation of cellulose crystallites in the tracheal axis is much greater in the sound than in the infected wood. This is confirmed by microscopic examination of the wood.
