Abstract
Microorganisms utilize more than one material for endogenous metabolism often preferentially in response to cultural or environmental conditions. Where this is carbohydrate the organism is frequently able to utilize nitrogenous compounds. In some cases nitrogenous or lipid materials are the primary substrates. The precise quantitative evaluation of the interplay between assimilation and metabolism of different reserves in the cell, further studies of the energetics and elucidation of the role of endogenous metabolism in the presence of exogenous substrates were emphasized. Keywords
