Studies of Diurnal Changes in Cherry Root Growth and Nutational Movements of Apple Root Tips by Time-lapse Cinematography

Abstract

Analysis of time-lapse films of growing roots, photographed through plate-glass windows, showed that cherry root growth was most rapid between I6.00 hours and 23.59 hours daily and was slowest between 08.00 hours and I6.00 hours, and that apple root tips exhibited rhythmic nutational movements as they grew through the soil.
