Studies in the Genus Sporonema

Abstract
Eighteen Sporonema species have been studied and compared. The transfer of S. hiemale Desm. To Sirexcipula is proposed on the basis of its catenate conidia. The transfer of S. platani Bäuml. To Placosphaeria is proposed because of the multiloculate nature of the pycnidia. Sporonema pallidum Ell. & Ev. is shown to have septate conidia and is rejected as a Sporonema. A new species on the leaves of Fraxinus is described as S. fraxini Limber. It is proposed that Excipula diapensiae Rostr. be transferred to Sporonema to give it an acceptable name under the international rules.
