The in vitro rate of glucose uptake by epididymal fat pads removed from adrenalectomized rats is decreased if the rats have been previously injected with cortisol. Significant effects in 150–200 gm. rats are obtained with 0.5 mg. cortisol, given in a single subcutaneous injection. The effect can be observed within 1.5 hours after injection.
