Relative Ionization by Cosmic-RayμMesons in a Liquid Scintillator

Abstract
Measurements of the rise in energy loss of mesons of energy between 385 Mev and 2200 Mev in traversing an xylene solution have been made. The observed pulse-height distribution is compared with the most probable energy loss and median energy loss as found using the Landau theory without a density correction and with a density correction as calculated by Sternheimer. The result of this measurement favors a density correction to the theory of energy loss.
