Subretinal Pigment Migration

Abstract

A prospective study of 226 operations for retinal detachment revealed subretinal pigment migration in 12% of the eyes. The incidence varied directly with the number of applications of cryotherapy. No defects in the visual field were found by either kinetic or static perimetry. The visual acuity in eyes with foveal pigment was no worse than the control group. It is concluded, within the limits of this study, that subretinal pigment migration following cryosurgical retinal reattachment does not impair visual function.
