Abstract
As a measure of germination in Bacillus subtilis and 3 other strains in both surface and submerged cultures, counts were made of those organisms which remained viable after 15 minutes at 60[degree]C. Whenever media contained L-alanine significant stimulation was observed; this was inhibited when D-alanine was present, even in a proportion of 1:30. The effects of tyrosine and adenosine varied from nil to those of L-alanine, depending on the strain.
