The crystal structure and some reactions of bis(cyclo-octa-1,5-diene)-iridiumtrichlorotin

Abstract
The compound [Ir(SnCl3)(C8H12)2] has been shown by X-ray crystal analysis to contain five-co-ordinate iridium in a distorted trigonal bipyramidal environment of four double bonds and one tin atom. Reaction of this compound with (o-Ph2As·C6H4)3As, QAS, gives [Ir(SnCl3)(QAS)] which can be oxidised to [IrCl(SnCl3)(QAS)]Cl.
