Clinical examinations were carried out on 540 workmen in an industry using metallic lead. At the time of the examination specimens were obtained for lead in blood, lead in urine, urinary coproporphyrin, punctate basophilia and haemoglobin estimations. The results of these tests are compared with each other and with an overall assessment of the degree of lead absorption of each man. Much of the data used in this communication was presented by the authors at the Thirteenth International Congress on Occupational Health, New York, 1960, in a paper entitled “Relative Significance of Tests for Industrial Lead Absorption and Poisoning Determined by Field Surveys”.
