ENHANCEMENT BY HYPERTHERMIA OF EFFECT OF BCNU AGAINST EMT6 MOUSE TUMOR

Abstract

The combination of moderate hyperthermia (43.degree. C water bath for 1 h) and BCNU [1,3-bis-(2-chloroethyl)-1-nitrosourea] against the EMT6 mouse tumor [mammary] was studied. The effect was much greater than could be predicted from the effects of the single modalities and this is true whether the endpoint is tumor cure, growth delay or an in vitro assay of the clonogenic fraction. Inhibition of recovery from potentially lethal drug damage apparently is not the mechanism by which heating potentiates the action of BCNU.
