Abstract
Homogeneous nucleation theory is applied to the process of vacancy condensation in crystals. The results show that homogeneous nucleation cannot account for the observed densities of vacancy clusters in quenched fcc crystals. Nucleation must be heterogeneous in such cases. The implications of these results with respect to the formation energies of the various clusters are discussed. This publication has 15 references indexed in Scilit:
