Formation of a Crustaceous Sporophyte with Unilocular Sporangia in Scytosiphon lomentaria

Abstract
The life cycle of Scytosiphon lomentaria (Lyngbye) Link has been completed in culture. Male and female gametes, produced on separate macroscopic plants, copulate to form zygotes, which develop into crustaceous thalli bearing unilocular sporangia. The zoospores germinate to form filaments which develop directly or indirectly into tubular Scytosiphon plants.
