Abstract
A direct correlation between stimulated desorption and a one-electron excitation from a particular electronic state has been demonstrated for the palladium {100} surface after hydrogen exposure. Angle-resolved photoelectron-spectroscopy measurements show a hydrogen-induced feature with intensity directly proportional to the photon-stimulated-desorption yield. The data may comprise the first evidence of desorption arising from direct excitation of an adsorbate-induced level.
