Effect of Para-Aminosalicylic Acid on Serum Isoniazid Levels in Man

Abstract
A microbiologic assay of isoniazid (INH) in blood serum in the presence of streptomycin or para-aminosalicylic acid (PAS) is described. The concurrent oral administration of PAS with INH resulted in detectable elevation of the antimicrobially active INH level in the serum of 22 of 25 tuberculous patients. The significance of this action with regard to the adequacy of INH dosage in the treatment of tuberculosis is discussed.
