Abstract
A metal-rolling example is used to illustrate the natural occurrence of functional equations in physical processes and the approximations needed to reduce these to the more common point-function forms in which the variable delay appears as a state variable and, finally, with constant delay. An example illustrates the close correspondence between the transient responses of the more accurate model and its approximations. Keywords
