Hyperglycemia and Hyperosmolarity in an Eighteen-Month-Old Child

Abstract
DURING a review of the records for juvenile diabetes mellitus at the Hospital for Sick Children, a case was discovered in which severe hyperglycemia was accompanied by an altered level of consciousness but not by ketosis. A recent review1 of the syndrome of hyperglycemic hyperosmolar coma in adults indicated that no case in a person under twenty-seven years of age had ever been reported.
