EFFECTS OF INTRAVENOUS HYDROCORTISONE ON ELECTROLYTES OF SERUM AND URINE IN MAN*

Abstract
The intravenous injection of 50 or 100 mg of hydrocortisone over 4 hours produced significant rises of serum K concentration and of urinary K excretion in 5 normal human subjects. Urinary K clearance was increased. Since serum K rose while urine K was also increasing, hydrocortisone must promote release of K from intracellular water in addition to its known effect on renal tubules.
