Inelastic Electron Scattering fromMg24at 180°

Abstract
The 180° inelastic electron scattering from Mg24 has been studied at bombarding energies of 39 and 56 MeV. A survey was made of the giant-resonance region from 14 to 28 MeV. The excitation region from 9 to 14 MeV was treated more intensively in order to study the analogs of states in Na24. Measurement of the transition radius R and the ground-state transition-width Γ for the 9.94- and 10.70-MeV levels yielded R=3.5±0.2 F, Γ=11.9±2.7 eV and R=3.0±0.2 F, Γ=18.9±3.7 eV, respectively. The relation of these results to Kurath's theory is discussed.
