Ethnic Variation in Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors Among Children and Young Adults

Abstract
Although cardiovascular disease (CVD) does not manifest until adulthood, CVD risk factors, such as elevated blood pressure, excess weight, and abnormalities in plasma lipoprotein levels, are present in childhood1 and persist into adulthood.2 Furthermore, CVD risk factors are associated with the presence of atherosclerosis in children and young adults.3-5
