Abstract
A wide variety of recognized measures has come into use to describe the sizes of particles and the concentration of aerosols. Their choice is determined not only by the physical principle employed for the measurements, but also by the property or effect of the aerosol in relation to which the information on particle size and concentration is desired. The relationships between some of these measures are discussed, and examples are given of the influence of particle shape. In particular, the complexity of the relation between morphological and aerodynamic measures of particle size is emphasized. Keywords
