Abstract
Gamete cell-walls are shed in syngamy, and the fused protoplasts become surrounded by a temporary membrane, within which a thick reticulate wall is developed later. The primary zygote membrane (PZM) recolorizes leuco-fuchsin, suggesting the presence of free aldehyde groups. This staining reaction is common to the PZM of other Chlamydomonas spp..Keywords
