Abstract
An electrode chamber was designed for observing microscopically contractions of a piece of frog''s striated muscle, 0.2 mm. thick, immersed in saline. CO2-saturated Ringer''s solution (pH 5.2) reduced contraction in 1 min. to 80%, and in 5 min. to 25%, of its original value. Removal of CO2 caused rapid recovery, which was soon complete. CO2 effects were not due to O lack or to lowered pH per se. Addition of bicarbonate to CO2-saturated solutions diminished their inhibitory effect. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
