Variation in Germination and Spore Morphology among Four Isolates of Glomus mosseae

Abstract
Isolates were from Quincy, Washington, Urbana, Illinois, Corvallis, Oregon and Bend, Oregon (all USA). No spores of the Bend, Corvallis and Illinois isolates germinated on any of the 5 media tested whereas the Washington isolate germinated on all media. The ungerminated isolates failed to germinate over the period of a year when tested at 2 month intervals. Some germination of all isolates occurred in soil. The lack of germination on agar seemed to be related to the presence of a peridium. The Washington isolate had the least well developed peridium.
