Tick Paralysis

Abstract
SEVERAL reviews of tick paralysis have been written, two of which are oustanding for their completeness.1, 2I would refer you to them for historical data and statistics up to the time of their publication. This disease has been reported in North America, Australia, Africa, and Europe. In the United States it is endemic in the Northwest, yet it has been reported in 15 out of 50 states. To my knowledge only one case has been reported from Florida3prior to the present case, though no doubt others have been seen. Tick paralysis in dogs in Florida is quite common and is well known to the natives and veterinarians. Definition By definition, tick paralysis is a disease of animals and man manifested by an ascending motor paralysis and incoordination, with or without sensory changes, following the bite of either a wood tick (Dermacentor andersoni Stiles) or a dog
