Simplified Methods for Micro-Incineration of Tissues

Abstract
After the opaque, chitinous chorion had been removed from developing eggs of Drosophila melanogaster the living egg could be observed. At [CHI] 1500, there could be seen in many of the pole cells, on the upper periphery of the pale, hyaline nucleus, 2 spherical bodies opposed to each other. These were identified as the central bodies by their behavior during division of the cell, by their position in the cell and by their distinctive appearance. The central bodies were observed in the pole cells of eggs developing in various external media,[long dash]33% sea water, 0.5 M glycerine and pure egg albumin.
