Abstract
Summary: RS virus was isolated from 10·5% of the specimens examined in the MRC/PHLS hospital survey and from 0·9% of those in the general practice survey. The highest isolation rates were in infants with lower respiratory tract infections. Dyspnoea, wheezing and cough were the predominant clinical features. The differences in the rates between hospital and general practice and newer methods of diagnosis of RS virus infection are discussed. Keywords
