Seven cases of patients with multiple myeloma in which eyes were obtained at autopsy are reviewed. Four demonstrated characteristic cysts of the ciliary body and pars plana. The four patients with cysts had received urethane during their course. They had an average period of survival of 4.6 years and showed elevated serum protein levels. The three without cysts had not received urethane, survived an average of one year, and had normal serum protein levels. Urethane, the duration of the disease, and associated blood changes may be etiological factors in the formation of these characteristic cysts.
