Studies in the Respiratory and Carbohydrate Metabolism of Plant Tissues2

Abstract
Using the enzymatic technique (Slater, 1953; Bergmeyer, 1963) the contents of glucose-6-phosphate, fructose-6-phosphate, glucose-1-phosphate, fructose-1, 6-diphosphate, dihydroxyacetonephosphate, 2- and 3-phosphoglycerate and phosphoenolpyruvate were assayed in several plant tissues with either a spectrophotometer or a fluorimeter. Extraction was in trichloracetic acid and the extract was usually cleared with activated charcoal to remove enzymic inhibitors; with apples ultrafiltration was sometimes necessary to remove pectin. Values for the contents of the above phosphate compounds in potatoes, bananas, strawberry leaves, apples, and tomatoes are given in Barker et al.(1962).
