Abstract
The scaling form for the correlation length for two-dimensional melting contains an important numerical factor which has been overlooked in previous work. As a result, the estimates of Greif, Goodstein, and Silva-Moreira on the sizes of the critical region, and of the corresponding correlation length, are modified. In an independent analysis we show that approximate scaling holds for reduced temperatures t102. However, the corresponding correlation lengths are still large, of the order of 108 lattice spacings.
