Abstract
The scaling form for the correlation length for two-dimensional melting contains an important numerical factor which has been overlooked in previous work. As a result, the estimates of Greif, Goodstein, and Silva-Moreira on the sizes of the critical region, and of the corresponding correlation length, are modified. In an independent analysis we show that approximate scaling holds for reduced temperatures . However, the corresponding correlation lengths are still large, of the order of lattice spacings.
